ABOUT VINTAGE OAK KITCHEN

Introducing the Vintage Oak Kitchen — a handcrafted bespoke kitchen created by Wood Works Brighton for a luxury new-build home in Sussex. This project reimagines natural materials through a sustainably minded approach: using reclaimed vintage oak to craft a kitchen that feels rooted in history, yet perfectly tailored to modern living.

Designed around the warmth, grain and character of up-cycled timber, this kitchen celebrates imperfection and history — reclaimed oak sourced from old barns and railway sleepers gives the cabinetry a depth of character and a sense of provenance. Paired with contrasting surfaces, the result is a kitchen that feels timeless, rich in texture and unmistakably bespoke.

Rather than opting for off-the-shelf units, this kitchen was drawn, built and installed by hand — every joint, every panel custom made. The living result is a vintage-inspired oak kitchen that marries sustainability with durability, craftsmanship and enduring style.

KITCHEN HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Reclaimed vintage oak cabinetry — with all the texture, history and authenticity of reclaimed timber, creating natural warmth and character.
  2. Contrasting surfaces — black granite worktops provide a striking visual balance against the pale tone of the oak, grounding the kitchen in sophistication and depth.
  3. Bespoke, functional features — including a hidden pull-out trolley beneath the island, combining clever practicality with handcrafted detailing.

KITCHEN DETAILS

  • Cabinets: Constructed from reclaimed vintage oak — up-cycled rustic timber originally salvaged from old barns and railway sleepers. This not only reduces demand for new timber, but preserves the character and story inherent in reclaimed wood.
  • Island Unit: Birch-ply doors for the island, finished with durable matte Forbo — a material choice that offers resilience and a clean, minimalist counterpoint to the textured oak cabinetry.
  • Worktops: Polished black granite surfaces — selected for their strength, timeless elegance, and the deep contrast they provide against the oak cabinetry, emphasising the handcrafted nature of the kitchen.
  • Joinery & Detailing: Hand-crafted oak dovetail drawers and carpentry joints, paying attention to fine detail and craftsmanship to ensure durability, longevity and authenticity.
