About Makokou
Another fantastic project with the talented team at The Vawdrey House.
The finished MAKOKOU kitchen is a celebration of contrast and texture. The hand-painted slim shaker doors bring a soft, refined character to the cabinetry. At the heart of the room is a striking island featuring gently fluted Oak timber panels framed in darker hardwood, creating a subtle contrast that enhances the natural grain of the wood. The island is topped with a durable, dark Blue Belguim Limestone worktop .
This balance between painted and timber elements creates a timeless look that feels both grounded and elegant.
One of the most impressive features is the secret walk-in pantry, hidden seamlessly behind matching cabinetry. Once opened, it reveals a generous and highly functional storage space—perfect for keeping the main kitchen uncluttered while offering all the practicality of a dedicated pantry room. It’s a detail that adds everyday ease without interrupting the clean lines of the design.
The open shelving, handcrafted tiles, and exposed timber beams introduce organic texture and a sense of calm. Together, these elements create a kitchen that feels relaxed, honest, and connected to natural materials—exactly what the clients envisioned. Every piece of cabinetry was designed and made in our workshop, tailored to fit the space and the way the family lives.
A favourite feature of this project is the concealed bar and glass-storage nook, neatly tucked behind full-height pocket doors. Inside, oak shelving, integrated glass racks, and a temperature-controlled wine fridge create a practical yet sophisticated entertaining zone. When closed, the cabinetry blends seamlessly with the rest of the room; when open, it becomes a beautiful statement feature.
Every element, from the joinery to the finishing details, was thoughtfully considered to reflect the clients’ personal style and the way they live each day. The result is a kitchen that is welcoming, beautifully crafted, and designed for real life—a standout example of bespoke kitchen design in Putney, London.
This project showcases the kind of bespoke kitchen design we love: thoughtful, characterful, and built with care from start to finish.
