ABOUT TONGDEAN HOME STUDY

We were engaged to design and build a tailored storage and cabinetry solution for a home office that already had a great desk — the brief: to add smart, clean storage that blends seamlessly with existing finishes. Our focus was on oak — natural, durable and warm — and adding subtle touches of colour to bring personality without overwhelming the space.

With new oak flooring laid to match the rest of the house, we crafted bespoke oak cabinets and shelving — including doors painted in a tasteful muted blue — to house everything from printer and media equipment to books, files, a sports duffle bag, and more. The result is a study space that feels considered, ordered and part of the home’s fabric, rather than a retrofit or afterthought.

STUDY HIGHLIGHTS

  1. High-quality oak cabinetry & shelving — every piece made to measure, with a focus on durability and visual harmony.
  2. Fitted design to existing floor and furniture — new oak flooring laid to match, so cabinetry integrates beautifully with the home’s aesthetic.
  3. Soft-touch colour detail — painted blue doors add subtle character and modern contrast to the wood, giving the study a unique personality without dominating the room.
  4. Smart storage solutions — generous capacity for books, files, media devices, printer, and even non-typical items like a sports bag — all carefully planned to keep the space tidy.

STUDY DETAILS

  • Materials – Oak for all cabinets, shelving and storage units; painted doors for a refined accent finish.
  • Internal organisation – Custom shelving and cabinetry sized to client’s needs: storage for media equipment, documents, books and personal items; plenty of capacity and flexibility built in.
  • Craftsmanship – Hand-crafted joinery, fitted to the room’s proportions; new oak flooring laid to match existing house finishes — every detail considered so the study feels bespoke and integrated.

WHY THIS WORKS

This home study succeeds because it balances functionality, aesthetics and subtle character. Using oak throughout ensures warmth and a sense of longevity — the kind of material that ages gracefully. The fitted cabinetry and matched flooring allow the new build-in storage to feel like it’s always belonged in the space, rather than an add-on.

The painted doors provide a gentle contrast and a hint of personality — enough to make the room feel considered, without overwhelming the calm, professional atmosphere that a study needs. And most importantly: the thoughtful layout and generous storage capacity keep the workspace organised and practical, helping the room function as a real home office — not just a desk and a drawer.
