Our kitchen design process:

Wood Works Brighton was thrilled to be shortlisted and then appointed to design and build this stunning bespoke vintage oak kitchen in a luxury new build home in the heart of Sussex.

We find that reclaimed oak kitchen designs are very popular with our clients. Vintage oak is timeless, durable, sustainable and versatile – it can play to a wide range of different interior styles.

Our client Sally fell in love with the idea of a vintage oak kitchen, using upcycled rustic timber from old barns and railway sleepers from France. She opted to pair black granite countertops with oak cabinets. The worktops are a beautiful black granite which contrasts with the pale tones of the vintage timber.

In addition to oak kitchen cabinets with black countertops we introduced the idea of matte white Forbo doors for the island unit. Forbo is an elegant yet durable rubber product, here used on top of birch ply doors. We also added a hidden pull-out trolley underneath the island.

Our client commented:

“Loved creating and designing our kitchen, wardrobes and many inbuilt units in our new build house (which does not have any 90 degree angles!) with Wood Works Brighton. Between Francois’ designs and Adam’s build we ended up with a very professional finished product which is fantastic. All works were done through the pandemic but we’re finally all finished – we have more for them to do but will wait for the spring!”

  1. It’s all in the details
The drawers are made with immaculate oak dovetail joints. We added a wall of pigeon hole storage to display chosen items.
  2. Practical features
We added a hidden pull-out trolley, concealed under the island unit.
  3. Contrasting materials
We love the polished black granite countertops with oak cabinets – a beautiful combination.
